the urge

As the first semester ends, I notice one thing. My spending habits are going crazy. Now, without a job, I feel like I was very thrifty early on in the year. I didn't buy novelty things, go on clothing shopping sprees, or even pay for expensive lunches at school. That's all changed! With the discovery of eBay and serious hunger problems, I am spending (or wanting to spend) more money than ever. I still have lots saved up in the bank, but this is a trend I must stop now. There are just so many temptations! It's time for me to stop complaining and find a job (or I could just buy a whole bunch of lottery tickets).

painting with light

Recently I've been re-bitten with the photography bug. I shot some volleyball (with film that was $10.25 per roll!) and now I want more. I've been cruising a few sites, which may be of some interest to you budding photographers out there, check them out:

Now the ideas are just popping in my head. I'm thinking more with the stuff I'm getting from eBay (my flash and my tripod), so I can't really put my ideas into action yet. They're both on the way though, so it won't be long until my creativity flows like [insert obscene sexual innuendo a la Sass Jordan].

Also, I've sent an email to the photo editor of The Gateway to see what I have to do to be on "staff." I really hope they have a nice pool of Canon equipment for me to borrow and have the main gym strobed up, so I can take some sweet volleyball action. That would be ideal. Sadly, I doubt they will have any of this. I'll let YOU [Uncle Sam pointing at you] know when I get emailed back.

I'm loaded up with 14 rolls of film I just bought, so I can't wait to burn 'em!

away

Just right now, 14 out of 16 people online on my msn are marked as "away." One is "busy" and only one is "online." What a trend that has come over MSN lately. Just as people like to ignore strangers on the bus with the use of headphones, people are now ignoring others with the use of the "away" shield. I admit I wear headphones on the bus, I don't want some crazy person talking to me. But your MSN friends (not necessarily real life friends) aren't strangers. There's an easier way to ignore, use the block and delete function. Sooner or later, the "friend" will clue in that you aren't online, ever, and they'll delete you off their list. So why go online to be "away" is the question. If you're "away," is it so hard to sign out? I'm guessing these "away" people just keep their MSN open to see who talks to them. A kind of self-centered thing. This is, of course, a huge generalization that isn't true all the time, but it's just my guess. I admit I like to use the "busy" status (it's a good way to shut the sounds up) and every once and a while I'll pull up the "away" sign. Just don't do it all the time!

Cool...

Okay, so I was looking up some harmonica stuff on Yahoo a bit back, and now I'm reading Zach Braff's Blog! I don't really remember how I got there, but it's some sweet shit. Go check that stuff out. And read the Too mad to "Lean Back" post. Super funny, and I like to take my car to the car wash too. Just like Zach Braff, which makes me cool like Zach Braff. Cool.

I wanna get a peacoat, MacManus brothers style. A little something like this from Old Navy. Too bad they don't have black though.

theory of a blogman

So, after a bit of blogging, I started wondering: why do we (as a general term for all people who blog) blog? The simplest answer I thought of was that a blog allowed us people to tell the world our problems. By letting the world know, it seems to make things easier. Or does it? It's like an online diary - that everyone could read. Why would you have a diary that everyone could read? That kinda defeats the purpose. This brings me to my next point. Bloggers WANT people to read their problems. More specifically, they want their friends to read their blogs (aka problems). By doing that, the friends know what's going on without having to actually physically talk about these things. Now this can be a good thing or a bad thing. If you aren't good at verbalizing your problems, go and blog on! But if you are, the blog takes away some of that verbal interaction that you could've had with your friends ("oh, I don't have to ask him about that, I read about it on his blog"). This makes sense in my head. Other people are probably blogging for this reason, they just don't know it. Why else are the majority of blogs about a person's problems!! I guess people do find it amusing to hear others' problems, and by doing so, they think they can help the person. Whatevs, I'm out. Leave a comment if you agree or disagree, bitch.

bless you ebay

YESSSSSSS, I won my first ebay item today. After being Ju-On'd twice by smooth, last-minute bidders, I pull out with the win. It was pretty melodramatic though, no bidding war in the last minute. Some guy just came in with a few minutes to push it to my maximum bid. I put in a higher bid at the end just in case, but it wasn't necessary and I just pushed my own bid up. It ended at $112.50 US for the Bogen 3021N legs and 3025 head. Pretty darn good deal if I had to say.

damn you ebay

So here I am, thinking I'm playing it smart by waiting until the last 15 minutes to bid on a Bogen 3021 tripod and some random takes me into a bidding war. Last few minutes, I'm game. I take it up to $105.69 and he takes it to $110.21. With a minute and a half left, he takes it to $115.32 and I come back with $115.69 with 39 seconds remaining. It's in the bag right? Wrong. With 7 seconds left, a third guy comes in and lays down $118.19 for the win. I'm thinking I should've put a higher maximum bid, but whatever. I'll take the lost, well played pseudopickle, you bastard. Anyways, only 17 hours and 15 mins until the next item I'm watching ends.

Late nights...

I dunno what's been up lately, long nights, but not because I have lots of work (well I do), but just because. I should be doing some work, but it's just not happening. The hard semester is almost over, then it's just cruising time. Cruising Gwenyth styles. It's just like that song from A Goofy Movie, "...after today I'm gonna be cruising, after today she'll be mine..." (I have that soundtrack on tape, bought it from when I was a kid). Only difference is that I'm not in high school, my relief is more than a day away, and the girl won't be mine. FYI, the guy who sings that, Aaron Lohr, is Dean Portman from the Mighty Ducks movies. Pretty crazy hey, pretty crazy.

I got my headphones today, worrrrrd.

Halloween came a day late...

My sister came over today with some sweetness, leftover candy. I'm talking push pops and full size chocolate bars (I don't eat too many choc-o-late bars). There's lunch for a few weeks.

I'm getting some new headphones too, because my (sister's) dog, Bacon, ate my old ones. Thinking of the Sony MDRV300, only 50 bucks at Best Buy. Then I can use them to pretend to be a DJ too.

One more thing, don't get addicted to ebay.
