fair and balanced

I just watched a documentary in my sociology of sport class called Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism. It basically shows how much power the media has and how Fox News is a sham. Rupert Murdoch uses his "news" station to propagate his right-wing, Republican views to America, and ultimately the world. Here's a quote from Roger Ebert from the Outfoxed site:

"Fox is not objective. Fox is a Republican propaganda machine."
-Roger Ebert

There you go, watch it. I seriously recommend this to everyone.

Check out this clip of Bill O'Reilly, one of Fox's main "journalists."

San Francisco... Part III

Watch the video. Now what kind of objective journalist calls the left "nutty," makes fun of a Congresswoman, and misinterprets this San Francisco Proposition. I have no idea what this Proposition is, but based on this one video alone, I think that they are proposing that military recruiting should not be done in public schools. Bill O'Reilly calls this an "anti-military proposition," leaving out the part where they are recruiting young kids in public schools. Anything that goes against the military is seen as a going against the Bush government, and that just can't happen (at least on the Fox Network). And what's this shit about "flying monkeys," and basically calling Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi a witch? That's "fair and balanced" journalism at its best.

I think you'll enjoy this stuff Josh, so remember not to work for Fox when you grow up.

This is old hat. Fox News has been a propaganda machine since its inception, as has almost all of the "24-hour" news networks. But you bring something up that important none the less.

Setting aside the disgustingly over-used [and overrated] Chomksy analysis of news media, you need to realize that part of what Fox is doing has nothing to do with partisanship. It is really just trying to get people to watch and if it can accomplish that vis-a-vis being a conservative whore-bus, then it will do it. [fuck, that was terribly Chomsky-esque]

Opposingly, Canadian media has historically leaned toward supporting whatever party has power at the time. I'm talking television here mostly, as print is almost always clear cut [ie- Journal = left, Sun = Right].

You have taken quite a shining to this sociology/politcal discourse. I'm glad to see you aren't just dancing and playing soccer in phys-ed and are actually being analytical and thinking about things such as this.
