who was lindsay thurber?

Got back from Red Deer last night. The high school we went to (Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive) is (and has been) going through some renovations. They have a super huge science lab and a new gymnasium that rivals the size of some post secondary institution gyms. Where'd they get the money?
