be free

I've had the same runners for about four years now. That's waayyyyyy to much mileage for any pair of shoes to provide any good cushioning. So for this track season, I thought I'd reward myself by getting a nice pair. According to the Running Room salesperson, I have a neutral gait (as opposed to the overpronation that some people battle), so I don't need a shoe with stability support. I chose the Mizuno Wave Creation 7 and I ordered it with a big order that my coach set up for us. Just gotta wait for them to come in now.

Last night was my volleyball banquet. The school has a banquet every year at the end of the season and there is a nice dinner, people dress up, we give out awards, and get door prizes. I won a $25 gift card to the Nike store and it was sweet! I went to the store, which is awesome, and found exactly what I wanted. I got a pair of Nike Free running shoes. These are minimal and are supposed to just give you some protection and mimic the barefoot as much as possible. The theory is that people get injured a lot because their shoes offer too much support and so the muscles in the feet weaken and therefore you get injuries. The Frees are used in training to build those muscles back up, so that the feet become stronger. I'll use these for light workouts and weight sessions, but it won't replace my Mizunos for high impact jump stuff. They were only 50 bucks, so with my gift card, they came to about 27 bucks. That's a damn good deal. Damn they're sexy.

the big white sole from the first picture makes them look like moon boots. but i do like how they look from the top though.

i have overpronation. is that what it's called when you have no arch?

over pronation is when the foot rolls inward during the impact. if you have no arch, you're feet are probably collapsing inwards, and over pronating. but just go to the running room and one of the people will watch you walk and run to see if you need a support shoe.

Those are sexy, sexy shoes. They are almost sexy enough for a sexy gentleman like yourself. Sexy.

If we are thinking about the same thing, I think this "overpronation" runs in our family. I and both of my sister and brother have the same problem. I think this is one of the contributing factors to my knee problem last year.

What's it called if I have high arches and tend to roll my ankles easily?

it'd be called under pronation (or supination, but the terms pronation and supination usually refer to the hands and inversion, eversion for the feet, but that's another story). and ida, it might be the cause of that (what knee problem did you have specifically?), because having misaligned feet could mean that you try to compensate with your knees, hips, etc. so much relies on your feet! i dunno how much for the mizunos, but they sell for 189 here, but i think i'll get them for about 130, hopefully
